ABOUT DESIGNER
Janice Chong has been crafting contemporary handmade jewelry with fusion charisma for years. Though born in Malaysia, Janice has lived and worked abroad most of her life, from Australia to Los Angeles, before settling down in Beijing. Her exposure to these western cultures, arts and experiences, combined with her own ethnicity result in her collections of fusion designs. Her jewelry exudes contemporary artistic styles combined with eastern treasures found all over China.
From her atelier in Beijing she designs and sources for natural gemstones and materials, weaving them into original necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings.
Every piece is one of a kind since it is uniquely hand-made. Hence no two pieces are completely the same. Every season inaugurates a new change of collection reflecting her vibrant energy in keeping up with the trend.
She is the Chief Designer and Founder of SHOU Designs Co. Working together in tandem with her own sister Mickey Chong, who heads the operations in Malaysia, Shou Designs have been supplying jewelry to clients from Malaysia to Europe.
Since the beginning of 2005 Janice has also begun to teach a series of intensive jewelry-making workshops in Beijing. What was supposed to be a one time event became an on-going project due to popular demand for the courses.
By 2008, Janice has single-handedly taught over 300 students in all her workshop series. The demand for her workshops continues to be strong from expatriate ladies who came to Beijing from many different parts of the world. She is most proud of her Advance graduates who have taken the three tiers of her workshop series – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced to completion. She has seen them evolved from having zero skills to designing their own creations and to establishing their own online business selling privately and retail.
In view of this, Janice launched Shoudesigners.com in April 2008. Shoudesigners.com is a network connecting her own SHOU Designs Co. distributors of many years to her network of suppliers – the Advanced graduates. This special networking site allows her distributors to tap into the vast style and creations of her students and at the same time offering her students an outlet for selling their designs without the stress of setting up their own companies and dealing with logistics. Each student brings with her a style unique to her ethnicity and cultural background. See www.shoudesigners.com
