COURSES
Since 2002, Janice Chong has been teaching jewelry making in Beijing during Spring and Autumn. Many expatriates-both ladies and men-have graduated from her Beginner’s, Intermediate, Advanced and Bridal courses. Many have moved on from Beijing or moved back to their home country and have established their own jewelry businesses. Some are even selling their own creations through their own web sites.
Testimony of Students:

Joan Hargrave - Intermediate graduate student in 2006 USA speech therapist at the International School of Beijing
"As ex-pats in Beijing, we gasp in awe at the grandeur of the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, but we also weep with frustration when our electricity mysteriously disappears or the taxi driver stares at us blankly after we try out our finest Mandarin.
Janice Chong’s jewelry courses are a very, very special stress-buster. She gently guides beginner to advanced students, helping each of us steadily improve our grasp of technique and our sense of design. Materials including jeweler’s tools are provided, and detailed tips and contacts are shared about how to forge ahead with our own shopping adventures at the Pearl Market.
The small and intimate classes are as cozy as a quilting bee. We laugh, we learn, we bond. Before we know it, we’re proudly wearing our own creations. Beijing can be stark, but Janice’s courses bring beauty into our lives; the beauty of art and the beauty of friendship."

Charlene Delaporte – Advanced Graduate in 2008
South Africa
"When I decided to sign up for Janice's classes, I had no idea what a great adventure I was about to embark on. I have discovered a world of beautiful things and the necessary tools to be able to create my own wearable art. It has been such fun to learn new skills and techniques, to make new friends, and to be encouraged to embrace my own style. With every lesson I have gained confidence and been inspired to create and experiment with different materials, creating something and eagerly anticipating what it would look like. The classes have also become a place where each person can share their creations and inspiration with like-minded people, and my favourite part of each class is at the end, when Janice encourages us to walk around and see what each person has created. I have enjoyed each course immensely and eagerly look forward to the next lesson every week, because I know that I will not only learn a new technique, but I also get to learn something new about myself”

Alona Mellet - Intermediate graduate student in 2006
South Africa, English teacher
"As a new Beijinger I enrolled for Janice Chong's Jewellery course as a way of getting into the swing of things. Our Saturday afternoon class became a highlight and my teacher felt like a friend from day one. We learned to work with natural stones, wire, string and elastic. The class projects covered everything from stringing pearls, to wire necklaces and funky crystal rings. What started out as a hobby has turned into my passion and I'm into the process of starting my own business. I've already had my first jewellery exhibition in South Africa and the response was inspiring! This course opened a lot of new doors for me and I'm already enrolled for the next one!"
